Appointments

For non-urgent issues, please follow the guidelines below and choose the right service. An appointment may not be necessary.

How to book an appointment

Read our consultation tips

Before your appointment please make a list of what you want to ask the doctor.

Always start with the most important query first.

One problem at a time as thorough assessment and careful consideration is required. One problem per appointment.

Consultation length is 10 minutes, a double appointment may be appropriate for multiple problems or additional necessary clinical reviews, please be prepared for this.

A telephone appointment with a doctor may be more appropriate and more easily accommodated for, especially for queries and advice.

Where possible patients with language barriers are encouraged to bring an aid to help with their consultation.

Please bring with you any new hospital correspondence or medications to your appointment where possible. The hospital letters may not arrive promptly, some time needs to be given for this. You may want to call and check this first.

Please let the surgery know in advance if you cannot make your appointment or are held up with any short delay. Lateness beyond appointment time means that you will be asked to rebook.

Routine appointments can be accommodated with a named doctor where available, emergency appointments may not.

Appointments

Urgent Appointments

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Routine Appointments

Routine appointments can be by contacting the practice. You may also be offered a routine appointment to come in further to your eConsult being triaged.

Nursing Appointments

Practice Nurse appointments are available at the practice each day. Some appointments with a Practice Nurse are available to book online via your NHS App.

Telephone Advice

Doctors are available to give advice or complete consultations over the telephone. Our staff will be able to advise you of the availability and times for telephone appointments.

Sickness Certificates (Fit Notes)

You must give your employer a doctor's 'fit note' (sometimes called a 'sick note') if you've been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.

Visit our Sickness Certificates page

Home Visits

Please note a lack of transport is not considered reasonable grounds for a home visit.

Home visits are available for housebound patients and those that need them by contacting the practice.

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:30am.

Telephone: 0203 805 7300

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Private Appointments

Request for a private medical examination will be done outside NHS time. Please book a separate appointment with the GP.

Please note that these appointments can only be booked for reasons such as HGV Licence, fitness for work, fitness for sport etc - our receptionists can advise you further.

Manage your appointments online

Patients at The Staunton Group Practice are able to have online access at the practice. This permits ability to request repeat prescriptions, book specific routine appointments, view blood test results and immunisations and clinical documents along with their list of chronic disease information. This information is granted prospectively - from the date online access is set up.

For retrospective historical information, this access can be sought through a SARs Request (Subject Access Request for Medical Records) which can take up to 28 days. Please speak to one of our reception staff regarding a SARs Request.

How to sign-up

You can register for the NHS App directly via the NHS website. You will need photo ID when you register to be granted full access. If you do not have photo ID, please talk to us and we will help you sign up.

The NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) combines electronic booking with a choice of place, date and time for first hospital or clinic appointments. Patients can choose their initial hospital or clinic appointment, book it in the GP surgery at the point of referral, or later at home on the phone or online.
